Late into the Lexicon New Year's show -- just a little before midnight -- my mother (pictured above) came up to me with a most sweet and excited look in her eyes.

"I'm going to take a picture everyday this year," she told me, grabbing my arm. "One picture each day."

I was amused and I did not believe her, of course, because I had made a similar pledge the year before and had failed to follow through. But my mother is a more determined sort than I (she is my good genes) and she has not wavered in her Project and so what else can I do but encourage her.

Here, then, is THE PHOTO OF THE DAY as experienced by Victoria Isabel Fairbairns Schankula -- my talented and curious mother.
